schoolwork!

Sorry I haven't updated lately! I've been super busy with schoolwork, but now that my latest few assignments have been completed, I can post them. :)

The first is a landscape we were supposed to paint with a reference; in this case I painted the view from a street in San Luis Obispo. I used a photograph.. which we weren't really allowed to do but my alleries were pretty severe and it was in a windy area of town... so I thought it was justified, haha.

acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20"

The second is a "conceptual landscape" that we were supposed to compose ourselves, using whatever source imagery we found necessary.

acrylic on canvas, 18 x 24"

enjoy! :)

Block Building!

So I'm taking this early development psych class where I go to a nursery school and interact with children and try to prevent them from hitting each other, and they call me "Teacher Jin" XD How sweet. Anyhow, I started to play around with their toys when they were gone ;) It was really fun!

Sorry guys, for not being timely about this. I have few projects I'm doing for my classes, and this is one of them. I'm trying to figure out how to do the framing. I'll post that up too when it's done :)

10. Anatomy: Gummy Genesis cont.

10. Anatomy

I decided to take the theme literally.. ish.. and decided one of the things I need the most help with, concerning human anatomy, would be noses and mouths.... so I found some references (a lot of them out of Brian Froud's book on faeries.. so maybe the catergory of 'human' anatomy wouldn't be that accurate) and drew them. I think I have a better understanding of them now (hopefully). :)

10. Anatomy: Gummy Genesis

Eww... didn't know my finger would look so gross up close. Anyway, I got the idea from the gummy anatomy poster I put up for inspiration ;) I'll be posting up the rest of the story tomorrow!

Ho... goodness.

I'm going to be late again :(
So sorry for the delay; I thought I had this planned out pretty well but apparently not :P
Check tomorrow morning? XD

Oh and just as I was looking up some anatomy stuff, I found out something really strange. So I have this weird dent/hole near my ear, and I've been wondering all my life what that could be. I think it's preauricular sinus. O_O Do you guys have it?

10. Anatomy

At first I was just going to do a skeleton...But then I realized that wasn't very interesting to look at...If someone wanted to look at a skeleton, they could just look at a text book or something. :P
So I tried combining some stuff here and there. And what I got is this wacky little thing. lol.
Hope you like it.

Its not colored because my trial of photoshop expired....And I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to color it successfully anyway.

re: thinking

Haha it's funny how we were all kind of thinking the same thing... Instead of getting discouraged though, this could be a great chance to have a discussion on what we originally wanted out of this blog and how we can still achieve that.

Why did we start this project to begin with? My take was that we had all fallen out of touch with art, and wanted to use a friend-evaluated/reviewed environment to keep us inspired and evolving.

I think Jin's idea would be a good direction to get us re-motivated. Each week (or two weeks) we can post art-related items or concepts that we're personally inspired by or interested in, and works that we've developed/started/completed in response to that inspiration, or some combination of the two.. maybe a little written blurb on why we're interested in whatever subject. At the very least have some form of work we did to show the others.. kind of like show-and-tell! And also as Jin said, it can be any kind of concept, typography, doodle, graphic design, whatever.

This is just a suggestion, so what do you guys think?

10. Continuing on!

Ok, so we'll continue on our drawing exercises. I'm going try to put more effort or thought into each drawing ;)

This week's theme is the anatomy.
It will be due Saturday April 3rd.

For inspirations, check these out!

Thinking

After seeing our submissions, I was thinking about changing our format somehow.

I feel like we are not putting enough of our efforts into making our artworks or that we just don't have the time for it. Having themes was good for doing things that we don't usually do, but I feel that it is literally forcing us to do art. Like, the motivation isn't coming from our hearts, you know? We need to be internally motivated and feel really proud of our works. We do try our best to produce works, but I don't feel as much passion behind them.

I was going to suggest that we post up whatever stuff we want to show off to each other each week. It doesn't matter if it's photography, concept, typography, or doodles (I personally like looking at doodles XD)... But then I realized, that's what deviant art is for. XD

How do you feel about the direction we are going at? What are some of the problems we are having and how can we solve them?

9. Disney Princess: Jasmine

Finished my finals! and I'm back home for one night so I meant to finish this up but I left my tablet back in San Luis Obispo.. -___-;; I'm posting what I have so far so I don't leave you guys hanging. Anyway, Jasmine is one of my favorite disney princesses<33 and I wanted to do a little tribute to her. Hope you guys like it so far!

9. Disney Princess: Who put that in the water!

Ariel must have been very stressed out lately. Or somebody keeps throwing oily food in the ocean!

Oh, and good luck to those who are taking finals ;)
My finals start this Monday, which might have had some influence on my art XD

9. Disney Princess - Nala

EDIT: I took Jin's advice and added a background......obviously not my background. Took it from Katikut on DA....... I dunno if it looks any better...lolol.

I did Nala from The Lion King! Lion King is by far my favorite Disney Movie.
I guess she is a princess right? lol...

This is kinda rough looking. Not too clean. Anyway, Lion King style is fun. lol.

9. Disney Princess

Theme: Disney Princess
Due: Sunday March 14. (11:59pm)

I've been in a Disney mood. SO DISNEY PRINCESS THEMEEEEE

Some Suggestions.
You can do a piece on:
= trademark Disney Princess (Ariel, Belle, Snow White, ect)
= Minor Disney Princess ( like Kida from Atlantis...or Pocahontas or whatever)
= Someone you think should be a Disney Princess
= Anyone in the Disney Princess style?
=Your take on what a Disney Princess should be?

Whatever you want. lol.
Hope you guys have fun with this theme.

8. Ocean Life

Ok, it's not exactly nautical as I want it to be, but it has a background that is ocean...y. Sorry I missed my due date; I'll do better next time ;)

It's also not a drawing (it's a magazine cut-out I put together in photoshop); maybe I'll post two drawings for next theme; I feel like I'm not posting legit stuff. I've been getting into collages lately though. It's kinda fun and I really like the wonky look collages have.

Here is an artist I recently found: http://www.pollybecker.com/
Her assemblages are really cute and funny and kinda creepy at times.
+_+ Maybe a collage should be our next theme!

Oh no !

Sorry I past the due date; been super busy recently. I'll post a drawing tomorrow ;)

8: Ocean Life - Jellies!

I took this photo at the Baltimore Aquarium. I'm not quite sure what kind of Jelly Fish they are, but I really liked how the photo turned out. They arranged themselves so nicely for me. Ahaha.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this photograph.

I know its not a drawing, but I'm pretty sure it said in the first entry or so that photos count as posts right? Well if not, I'll draw something when my computer gets fixed. Its kind of sitting in the corner of my room waiting for me to replace the motherboard. lolol...

8. Ocean Life: Cephalopod

i love cephalopods!!!! <3
more specifically, the one above is a common cuttlefish (sepia officinalis) that was photographed in Ocean: Revealing the Secrets of the Deep by Bryan Richard.

< this is what it looks like with the reference i used.

i actually think it looked better before i painted the background :(
