The first is a landscape we were supposed to paint with a reference; in this case I painted the view from a street in San Luis Obispo. I used a photograph.. which we weren't really allowed to do but my alleries were pretty severe and it was in a windy area of town... so I thought it was justified, haha.

The second is a "conceptual landscape" that we were supposed to compose ourselves, using whatever source imagery we found necessary.

wow. i really love them both. The paint gives a soft look, but when I look closely, there are a lot of details.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about paint, but I like how you made the paint give off a texture feel. I guess its how you blended the colors? Like for example, the dirt in the first painting or the walls of the house in the second. They are many colors that consist of those examples that make it seem really detailed.
I agree! They are quite dreamy feeling. I especially love the shadows of the tree casted on the white house. The stones that form the gate to the house is so well rendered too! And just the image of a tree almost bursting out of the house is just awesome :)
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective at work for the first one. It almost looked photograph-like when I glanced at the thumbnail :)
One thing that caught my attention was that the mountains look very much in focus compared to other objects in the foreground (the edges are quite crisp). I think it could benefit from some usage of aerial perspective, so that the mountains seem further away.
